About the role

The Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) seeks motivated applicants for the position of Trooper I to fill vacancies across Wyoming. The role enforces Wyoming laws through primary contact with the public and has statewide jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in traffic law enforcement, crash investigations, citizen assistance, executive or dignitary protection, safety awareness activities/promotion, and public speaking.
  • Ensure excellent communication skills with the public, peers, chain of command, and internal and external stakeholders in all situations.
  • Adapt to changing situations and maintain self-control under stressful situations continuously.
  • Administer first/medical aid.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of hire.
  • Have a visual acuity of, or be correctable, 20/20 or better.
  • Brought a photo ID (driver's license).
  • Pass a series of tests, including a written, oral, physical, psychological, polygraph or equivalent examination, and a drug test, as provided before the appointment.

Qualifications

  • Basic research and understanding of the job duties of a Wyoming State Trooper.
  • Healthy physical fitness and nutrition habits.
  • Knowledge of the Wyoming Highway Patrol testing process.

Schedule

Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Troopers must be able to work shifts, holidays, and weekends.
