TRIO Upward Bound Tutor

About the role

The Division of Academic & Student Affairs (DASA) supports all students at NC State by fostering connections, community, and holistic success. TRIO Programs, including Upward Bound, are designed to provide educational opportunities for students to enter college, graduate, and contribute fully to society. This position assists high school students in the TRIO Upward Bound Program with academic skill building, particularly in core curricula and rigorous courses.

Responsibilities

• Provide tutorial assistance in high school standard course subjects such as math, science, English, and social studies.
• Support students in preparing for rigorous academic challenges and college readiness.
• Engage with students during scheduled sessions, typically 1–3 Wednesdays per month, between 2 PM and 7 PM.
• Travel to assigned high school sites, including Vance County High School (Henderson, NC), Louisburg High School (Louisburg, NC), and East Wake High School (Wendell, NC).

Requirements

• Sufficient academic standing to tutor in high school core subjects.
• May be a current college student or professional whose field of study aligns with the academic subject, or who has demonstrated mastery through coursework or experience.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license required.

Pay

$20–$25 per hour. Current undergraduates earn $20/hour; those with a bachelor’s degree or higher earn $25/hour.
