TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Peer Leader – Specialist II (P/T)
Job Summary
TRIO SSS seeks students interested in supporting TRIO SSS participants as a mentor and peer leader. Our goal is to provide a productive, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment that will guide students toward study practices, success strategies, and aides that help them excel both inside and outside of college.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Absorb and answer general student questions
- Attend peer leader meetings and trainings
- Understand details of each TRIO program at SLCC
- Perform outreach, provide customer service, facilitate workshops/activities, and other duties as assigned
- Do research
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or former participant of the TRIO Student Support Services Program
- Experience in leadership, mentoring, tutoring, customer service, or student engagement activities
- Bilingual or multilingual communication skills
- Knowledge of campus resources and student support services
Minimum Qualifications
- Current SLCC Student
- Must qualify for federal work-study
- Have and maintain a GPA of a 2.5 or higher
Working Conditions
Office and campus-based work environment. Frequent interaction with students, faculty, staff, and community members. Occasional evening or weekend events may be required. Maximum of 20 hours per week.
