Triage RN

About the role

As an experienced practitioner, the Triage Nurse is responsible for assessing patients, determining the severity of patients' conditions, and prioritizing care based on the urgency of symptoms. Applicants with Athena EMR experience will be given priority.

Responsibilities

• Performs telephone triage, patient education, and handling of physician phone calls and pharmacy calls
• May assist by calling to set up appointments or arrange hospital tests or admissions
• Completes paperwork such as refilling medication, ordering lab tests, x-rays, school/work notes, and FMLA
• Assesses patients and determines priority, referring for emergency care as needed
• Counsels patients concerning lifestyle modifications, medication regimens, side effects, and interactions using appropriate psychosocial communication
• Communicates follow-up appointments, ancillary and/or pre-operative testing, and scheduling needs to patients and office coordinators
• Coordinates ordering of tests/procedures with other clinical staff
• Responds to patient questions and concerns as a liaison between physician and patient
• Develops office protocols and training documents
• Reports all test results to the patient as directed by the physician

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
• State of Michigan LPN or RN License required
• BLS certification required
• At least one year of working experience as an LPN or RN required
• Athena EMR experience highly preferred
• OB/GYN experience preferred, but not required
