Trenchless Rehabilitation Practice Lead

LJB Engineering Company, a national engineering consulting firm, is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Trenchless Rehabilitation Practice Lead role. This position supports our ongoing rapid growth in tunnel and trenchless design and construction management.

About the role

The successful candidate will have over 15 years of experience working on trenchless rehabilitation projects, including both design and construction phase roles, and possess the professional and interpersonal skills to make a positive impact on our firm and the clients we serve. We are looking for a motivated professional with a forward-thinking mindset, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and a collaborative spirit.

Responsibilities

  • Perform geotechnical engineering associated with the trenchless design and construction of municipal water and wastewater conveyance facilities.
  • Produce structural and geotechnical engineering calculations in support of trenchless rehabilitation design, including cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP), sliplining, spray applied pipe lining (SAPL), spiral wound pipe, pipe bursting, pipe ramming, and others.
  • Adhere to all applicable local and national codes of practice for design.
  • Develop proposals, cost estimates, and schedules for trenchless and rehabilitation projects; lead tasks and teams and produce technical deliverables (construction plans and specifications, structural/geotechnical calculations, design reports, and technical memoranda) according to client specifications.
  • Independently develop technical memoranda, letters, and reports.
  • Responsible for business development activities, including locating trenchless rehabilitation project leads, discussing teaming opportunities, and leveraging existing and new client relationships to secure an ongoing stream of new business in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Communicate technical and non-technical information concisely and professionally, including participation in technical meetings and workshops with owners, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Increase LJB’s visibility with internal and external professionals by participating in regional initiatives, conferences, committees, and community associations.
  • Office-based assignments require a standard weekday business hours work schedule. Field work may include weekday, night, and weekend work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study (Civil, Structural, Geological/Geotechnical, or related field); master’s degree preferred.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent knowledge of a wide range of trenchless rehabilitation construction methods and products.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of relevant trenchless rehabilitation experience.
  • Substantial professional project expertise in the planning, design, and construction of a variety of tunnel and trenchless projects.
  • Technical engineering and field-level experience delivering trenchless rehabilitation solutions for projects in soft ground and hard rock.
  • Experience with the inspection and design of rehabilitation measures for existing water/sewer tunnels and pipes.
  • Training and experience in project management.
  • Experience in proposal writing and job scoping.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant technical codes, operations, processes, and trends.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise independent judgment, interact with other staff, collaborate with other disciplines, and mentor junior staff.

Pay

$175,000+ based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.
