About the role

The Trenchless Geotechnical Team Lead will report to the Trenchless Services Engineering Lead, contributing to the Trenchless Program by applying geologic information to engineering and design practices, leading geotechnical exploration campaigns, evaluating subsurface conditions, and recommending solutions to problematic geologic conditions. This role involves leading comprehensive geotechnical investigations, managing geotechnical data, and supporting other business groups.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute comprehensive geotechnical investigations for trenchless projects.
    • Direct and oversee subcontracted geotechnical drilling crews.
    • Perform field soil and rock logging and testing.
    • Collect and analyze geotechnical data.
    • Generate reports and reports using OpenGround and gINT software.
    • Manage geological data and quality control.
    • Analyze subsurface conditions and calculate subsurface parameters.
    • Support geotechnical analyses and generate design reports.
    • Aid in geotechnical analyses of subsurface conditions.
    • Monitor and report on daily construction activities.
    • Communicate with clients and team members off-site.
    • Support geotechnical data management.
    • Interpret subsurface conditions and lead efforts for incorporating geological and geotechnical data into critical determinations.
  • Support other business groups within the broader HDR organization.
    • Perform field-based responsibilities such as site reconnaissance, geotechnical field logging, and oversight of geotechnical field investigations.
    • Present field data in a timely manner with high quality.
    • Lead and manage workload and delegate responsibilities to other geologists or geotechnical professionals.
    • Manage workload and accountability of direct reports.
    • Plan, resource forecast, cost estimate, schedule, and manage risk for all geological and geotechnical initiatives.
  • Expand the team’s focus on geological and geotechnical based services through additional new-hires and direct reports.
    • Lead and manage a team of geotechnical-focused individuals.
    • Assist in generating design reports.
    • Advance capabilities in software programs.
  • Provide significant opportunity for professional growth and development.
    • Develop the Trenchless team’s geotechnical database and project deliverables.
    • Assist in generating trenchless deliverables.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or other related field required.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience.
  • Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Good leadership and organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the OpenGround software.
  • Experience leading and managing direct reports.
  • Experience managing subconsultants.
  • Preferred qualifications include:
    • Experience with gINT Software Products, ArcGIS, AutoDesk.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Travel is required.
    • PE and/or PG credentials.
    • Knowledge and a good understanding of ASTM Standards for geotechnical concepts and subsurface material classification(s) based on various testing methods.
