Traveling Safety Specialist II (Electrical T&D Construction)

About the Role

The Safety Specialist II works closely with field staff, clients and subcontractors, all levels of management, and personnel from external organizations during all phases of electric construction projects. The specialist will support the creation of site‑specific plans and mentor other safety professionals within the company. The role requires a commitment to ensuring adherence to safety‑related policies, procedures, and regulations while developing positive professional relationships. This is a location‑based position encompassing worksites throughout the assigned project area and requires varying amounts of travel.

Essential Functions

• Conduct accident/injury investigations, including root‑cause analyses.
• Provide support to the Operations organization for incident case management and documentation steps.
• Follow up with Operations to ensure completion of corrective actions for all accidents and incidents.
• Complete final review of incident case management and documentation.
• Support company safety committees by assessing safety performance trends and implementing process and tool improvements.
• Perform ongoing site visits to observe and document safety behaviors and work conditions throughout all phases of electric construction projects.
• Partner with Operations leadership to create site‑specific safety plans and actively participate in safety meetings reviewing job hazard analyses and hazard‑recognition tools.
• Participate in project kick‑off and progress meetings.
• Coordinate safety department meetings and action planning to provide technical expertise regarding safety and training topics.
• Support client‑specific safety requirement programs and ensure alignment and compliance with client expectations, company rules, and applicable safety regulations.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to environmental protection or occupational health and safety.
• Coach and mentor project site personnel regarding safety practices and behaviors on an ongoing basis.
• Conduct proactive behavior‑based and quality‑focused field safety observations and PPE hazard assessments.
• Coordinate with Safety, Safety Training & Operations teams to schedule or facilitate required employee trainings, including new‑hire orientation, OSHA ETD quarterly refresher training, customer‑required training, and post‑incident training as part of a corrective action plan.
• Participate in site‑specific safety planning and provide mentoring and coaching to lower‑level safety personnel.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance and perform other duties as assigned.
• Perform duties at a company‑designated office or field location while understanding and complying with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry‑specific professional and ethical standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) field roles.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent (required).
• At least one safety certification preferred (e.g., Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Specialist in Safety and Health (SSH), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)).
• Undergraduate degree in Occupational Safety & Health Management, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene, or a related technical field preferred; relevant experience and education may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Documented experience with OSHA recordkeeping, reporting, and Method of Procedure (MOP) writing.
• Thorough understanding of construction project management practices and procedures.
• Advanced knowledge of local, federal, and state regulations related to environmental protection or occupational health and safety.
• Excellent problem‑solving and situation‑analysis skills.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence behavior.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA and other industry‑related safety regulations.
• Team‑player attitude with proven ability to work across departments and with external contacts while maintaining strong relationships.
• Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
• Willingness to travel for extended job‑site visits.

Pay

Salary commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith; MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
