Traveling Safety Manager - Not A Remote Position

About the Role
The Safety Manager will work with and through management to ensure the safety of personnel and compliance with safety and environmental procedures of local, state, and federal regulations including OSHA, MSHA, and DOT while assisting in the safe achievement of profitability/productivity requirements. The Safety Manager will achieve this by conducting training, observation audits, through administration, and by supporting other Safety Managers, Supervisors, and other staff to ensure they comply with governmental, company, and client policies. This position requires approximately 70% travel, primarily in the field.
Responsibilities
- Advises the Corporate Office on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions.
- Assists Corporate Safety and Site Superintendent in ensuring compliance and training of safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including OSHA, MSHA, and DOT.
- Travels to various locations as needed.
- Works with Site Supervision to anticipate upcoming PPE needs and training.
- Plans and conducts training for employees in work site safety practices, including new hire orientations and job-specific tasks.
- Verifies Job Hazard Analysis (JHA's) and any required work permits (hot work, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, etc.) are completed and hazards have been removed or mitigated.
- Holds daily safety meetings with all employees when at various locations; maintains a weekly summary log of those meetings and behavioral observations.
- Conducts audits to verify employees are educated in identifying hazards related to their tasks and environment; ensures JHA's are completed correctly and hazards are eliminated or controlled.
- Maintains safety files, records, and reports.
- Ensures all incidents, near misses, safety infractions/violations, and concerns are reported to the Corporate Office and investigated in a timely manner.
- Performs safety hazard assessments, inspections, and surveys; prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventative measures and follows up to ensure implementation (10 audits per week required).
- Conducts observation audits to improve safe work practices, training, equipment selection, and tools.
- Recognizes and performs training in areas of deficiency.
- Coaches personnel to identify hazards and implement corrective measures through hazard assessments, observations, and standard operating procedures.
- Reports all near misses and incidents to the Safety Director as soon as possible.
- Performs and/or assists with investigations of all incidents.
- Attends weekly Supervisor safety training meetings and monthly Safety Manager meetings.
- Understands regulations and procedures applicable to the work being performed.
- Assists in the development, evaluation, and upgrading of safety programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including supporting the corporate office in non-safety-related tasks.
Requirements
- Experience with OSHA regulatory requirements and training related to construction and industrial operations.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a direct Safety role.
- Experience in writing reports and business correspondence, as well as effectively presenting information to senior management, site supervision, clients, and employees.
- Experience in industrial settings is preferred.
- OSHA 30-hour certification (minimum).
- Safety Trainer status preferred.
- Class E driver's license required to drive a company vehicle.

- Must be able to see clearly when wearing safety glasses.
- Ability to complete tasks such as loading, unloading, cleaning, and shoveling.
- Ability to safely perform duties related to confined space work.
Schedule
- This position requires travel, with approximately 70% of time spent in the field.
- Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance as determined by management.
- Must be available and willing to work weekends and holidays as determined necessary or desirable by the employer.
