About the role

The Pump Specialist is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, overhaul, testing, and troubleshooting of pumps and related rotating equipment supporting nuclear and fossil power generation facilities. This role performs both field and shop-based mechanical work during planned outages, maintenance projects, equipment upgrades, and emergency response activities while maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Position Details

  • Travel required to customer sites supporting nuclear and fossil power generation facilities
  • Supports planned outages, maintenance projects, equipment upgrades, inspections, and emergency service activities
  • Ancient schedule may include extended work hours, overtime, weekends, nights, holidays, and outage schedules as required
  • Per diem and travel benefits may be available for qualifying assignments
  • Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear access authorization and satisfy all site access requirements

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection, disassembly, cleaning, repair, overhaul, reassembly, and testing of centrifugal, positive displacement, vertical, and specialty pumps
  • Diagnose mechanical equipment issues and perform corrective maintenance activities
  • Install and replace bearings, bushings, wear rings, shafts, sleeves, impellers, mechanical seals, packing, and related pump components
  • Perform shaft alignment using precision alignment methods and equipment
  • Conduct dimensional inspections using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments
  • Assist with equipment upgrades, modifications, and reliability improvement initiatives
  • Support outage maintenance, equipment inspections, and emergency service activities at customer facilities
  • Assist with equipment removal, installation, alignment, and commissioning activities
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, maintenance procedures, and specifications
  • Complete work orders, inspection reports, repair documentation, and maintenance records accurately and timely
  • Participate in pre-job briefs, hazard assessments, and continuous improvement activities
  • Maintain housekeeping, foreign material exclusion (FME), and work area controls as required
  • Follow radiation protection requirements, industrial safety procedures, and plant operational standards
  • Maintain compliance with all customer, regulatory, quality assurance, and site-specific requirements

Experience / Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in pump maintenance, rotating equipment repair, industrial maintenance, power generation, or related mechanical trades
  • Experience with pump disassembly, repair, inspection, and reassembly
  • Experience performing shaft alignment and precision measurements
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, maintenance procedures, and work instructions
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
  • NCCER Industrial Maintenance Certifications
  • Precision Alignment Training
  • First Aid / CPR Certification
  • Radiation Worker Training
  • Previous Nuclear Unescorted Access Authorization
  • Nuclear power generation experience
  • Vibration Analysis or Rotating Equipment Reliability Training

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in industrial and power generation environments
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and access elevated work areas
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, bend, and work in confined spaces for extended periods
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection when required
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, noise, and outdoor settings

Additional Requirements

  • Successfully pass background checks, drug screenings, and site-specific qualification requirements
  • Obtain and maintain unescorted access authorization at nuclear generating facilities when required
  • Meet all customer and regulatory requirements necessary to perform work at power generation facilities
