Traveling Project Manager / Estimator (Mission Critical)

About the Role

A Project Manager/Estimator at Veit bids and secures construction projects, then manages awarded contracts from start to finish. Responsibilities include scheduling, cost containment, progress monitoring, compliance, and client communication.

Responsibilities

  • Seek out and complete bid opportunities through client relationships, networking, public/private postings, and other means.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with current and potential clients.
  • Estimate projects for bid submittal by reviewing plans and specifications, calculating quantities, gathering quotes and submittals, constructing the bid, and creating the bid submittal.
  • Coordinate pre-construction meetings to ensure communication between project managers, field, and office support.
  • Work with operations staff to coordinate construction methods and staffing needs.
  • Obtain necessary permits and licensing.
  • Manage costs by tracking labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Oversee billing with Project Coordinators to ensure accuracy of invoicing, payables, accounts receivable collections, and monthly over/under billing management.
  • Communicate and ensure compliance with EEO/DBE project requirements.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on or under budget, and within the allowed time frame.
  • Use appropriate resources to troubleshoot project issues.
  • Seek approval for all project change orders before work is completed and manage scope changes to maintain profitability.
  • Coordinate efforts and communication with project owners/general contractors to ensure safe and timely project completion, adjusting scope and timelines as needed.
  • Keep leadership informed on all matters of relative importance.
  • Occasional travel and overnight stays to jobsites outside the office location area (10%).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree; minimum of 5 years experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Construction Bidding and Project Management software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience with MS Teams is desirable.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate information to all levels of management, employees, external vendors, and other business associates.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, clients, and/or regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and document data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of situations and events and respond accordingly.
  • Ability to seek counsel when needed and use a variety of resources.
  • Ability to develop and nurture lasting client relationships.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Viewpoint Vista and HCSS construction software is preferred.

  • Occasionally encounter high noise levels; hearing protection is provided/required.

  • Primarily an office environment, but jobsite travel is required.
  • Frequently works alone and with others.
  • Frequently exposed to variable work environments, including unique conditions outside a typical office.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving machinery, odors, dust, pressurized equipment, and electrical hazards.
  • May be exposed to environmental conditions, loud noises, and variable weather including rain, snow, wind, cold, and heat.

Pay

The base salary range may vary depending on geographic location, applicant skills, and prior relevant experience.
