Job Title: Traveling Project ManagerJob Description This role serves as a key leadership position for large-scale national construction and geotechnical projects, acting as a strategic partner to senior leadership. The Traveling Project Manager oversees project quality, risk mitigation, client communication, and operational consistency across multiple offices and project sites nationwide. The position plays a critical role in maintaining and strengthening relationships with a major national client while ensuring that projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established quality standards. The role combines field oversight, project management, quality assurance, and client-facing responsibilities, with an expected travel commitment of approximately 50–60% across the United States. Responsibilities Provide strategic project leadership and act as a key partner to senior leadership on large-scale national construction and geotechnical projects.Oversee multiple active construction projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with project scope, quality standards, and client expectations.Manage project lifecycles from pre-construction through closeout, including planning, execution, monitoring, and final delivery.Monitor and manage project budgets, schedules, deliverables, and resource coordination across multiple offices and job sites.Conduct quality assurance reviews and site assessments to verify compliance with design specifications, geotechnical recommendations, and construction materials testing requirements.Identify project risks and potential quality issues early in the construction process, and develop and implement corrective actions to mitigate impacts on schedule, budget, and client relationships.Interpret construction materials testing and geotechnical results, communicate findings clearly to project teams, and recommend appropriate actions.Serve as a trusted advisor to a major national client, maintaining strong, long-term relationships and ensuring that project expectations and contractual obligations are consistently met.Lead regular meetings with clients and internal stakeholders to review project status, discuss risks, resolve issues, and align on next steps.Drive consistency in project execution, communication, and reporting across multiple offices and geographically dispersed project teams.Influence and guide project teams without direct authority, holding internal stakeholders accountable to quality, safety, and performance standards.Support change management processes, including evaluation and communication of change orders and their impact on project scope, cost, and schedule.Navigate challenging conversations with clients and internal teams while maintaining positive, solutions-focused relationships.Analyze project data, identify trends, and provide insights to improve performance, mitigate recurring issues, and enhance overall project delivery.Collaborate closely with project managers, field personnel, regional offices, and executive leadership to ensure safe and efficient project execution.Maintain strong documentation, reporting, and communication practices to support transparency and accountability across all projects. Essential Skills Extensive experience in construction project management, including overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.Strong geotechnical and construction materials testing (CMT) knowledge, including understanding of soils, earthwork, compaction, foundations, and related testing processes.Demonstrated ability to interpret testing results and communicate technical findings clearly to project teams and stakeholders.Proven experience conducting quality assurance reviews and site assessments on construction projects.Strong capability to identify project risks and quality issues before they impact schedules, budgets, or client relationships.Experience implementing corrective actions and driving accountability across project teams.Background in commercial construction and construction management, including familiarity with project lifecycles from pre-construction through closeout.Experience serving as a trusted advisor to large clients, with a focus on client relationship management and satisfaction.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead meetings with clients and internal stakeholders.Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in fast-paced, dynamic project environments.Demonstrated ability to influence teams without direct authority and hold stakeholders accountable to standards and commitments.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.Strong organizational and time-management abilities, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects.Ability to analyze project data, identify trends, and translate insights into actionable improvements.Comfort navigating challenging conversations while maintaining positive, professional relationships.Ability to build and maintain relationships across geographically dispersed teams.Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50–60% nationwide to active construction sites and regional offices. Additional Skills & Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) Background or experience working closely with professional engineers in geotechnical and construction environments.Experience with change order processes and evaluating impacts on project cost, scope, and schedule.Exposure to environmental services and project engineering within construction and geotechnical contexts.Experience in quality assurance and risk management frameworks within commercial construction.Familiarity with coordinating across multiple regional offices and national project portfolios.Experience working in highly collaborative, matrixed organizations with multiple stakeholder groups. Work Environment The role operates in a combination of field, office, and remote work environments, providing a balance of on-site project oversight and strategic coordination. The Traveling Project Manager frequently visits active construction sites throughout the United States and is regularly exposed to commercial construction and development projects. The position involves close collaboration with project managers, field personnel, regional offices, and executive leadership in a highly collaborative and fast-paced setting. The work requires flexibility, strong prioritization, and clear communication across multiple projects and locations. The role offers significant autonomy and a high level of accountability, with an emphasis on consistent project delivery, safety, and quality across a national portfolio. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Springfield, MO. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $57.00/hr.
