About the role
Sequoia Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced On-Site Safety Manager for a heavy civil construction project to ensure the highest level of safety and compliance. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills and involves traveling throughout North Carolina.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with OSHA regulations, industry standards, and company guidelines.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and assess the effectiveness of safety measures.
- Provide on-site safety leadership, guidance, and support to project teams, subcontractors, and workers.
- Conduct thorough job hazard analysis (JHA) and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential safety risks.
- Coordinate and facilitate safety training programs, including orientation, toolbox talks, and specialized training sessions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA standards and regulatory requirements throughout the project.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and develop effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents, inspections, training, and documentation.
- Conduct regular safety meetings to address safety concerns, provide updates, and promote a culture of safety.
- Collaborate with project management and stakeholders to develop and maintain a safety-conscious work environment.
- Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, emerging safety trends, and regulatory changes.
- Provide safety reports, metrics, and recommendations to senior management on a regular basis.
Qualifications
A qualified safety person must meet ONE of the following criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in safety or related technical field with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a general industry/construction safety environment.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a general industry/construction safety environment and completion of the OSHA 500 Training Course.
- CUSP with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a construction safety environment.
- SMS with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a construction safety environment.
- CHST with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a construction safety environment.
Bilingual is a plus.
