Travel Respiratory Therapist - NICU - $3,102 per week

About the role

Travel Certified Respiratory Therapist assignment in a Level IV NICU at a children's hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. The position is a 13‑week contract starting November 9, 2026, with a day‑shift schedule of four 12‑hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM) for 48 hours per week (36‑hour option available). The unit uses a self‑scheduling model; every other weekend and two of the three winter holidays are required. Epic experience is required for the SRO Float Pool and Inpatient Units.

Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care to neonatal and pediatric patients in a critical care setting
• Assist with high‑risk deliveries and neonatal transports as needed
• Participate in ventilator management, airway suctioning, and pulmonary hygiene procedures
• Float within scope of practice as needed
• Maximum of 40 hours of requested time off (RTO) per 13‑week contract; all time off must be disclosed prior to offer acceptance
• Time off is not approved around the Christmas holiday

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of NICU and PICU experience
• Level IV NICU experience required
• Cardiac PICU experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• BSN preferred
• Certifications: RRT, BLS, NRP required; PALS and ACCS preferred
• Virginia state license required; pending license accepted only if in hand by the Wednesday before start date and candidate holds an active license in another state

Skills

• Skilled in neonatal/pediatric respiratory equipment: bubble CPAP, CPAP/BiPAP, oscillating ventilator, high‑frequency jet ventilator
• Airway management: intubation assistance, extubation, tracheostomy care
• Proficient in interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Experience with medication delivery systems: nebulizers, MDIs, aerosol setups

Schedule

• Shift: Days, 4×12‑hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM)
• Hours: 48 hrs/week (36‑hour option available)
• Every other weekend required
• Two of three winter holidays required
• Self‑scheduling model (preferred schedules not guaranteed)

Pay

Pay package is based on 12‑hour shifts and 48.0 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax‑free stipend amount to be determined.
