About the Role

Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN) position in Louisville, Kentucky. This role involves working on a high acuity, comprehensive stroke unit with a focus on patient-centered care, teamwork, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient-centered care on a high acuity comprehensive stroke unit
  • Perform NIHSS monitoring
  • Collaborate with CNA, receptionist, charge nurse, vascular access team, resource teams (including Sepsis and Rapid Response), hospitalist, specialists, intensivist (available 24/7), rehabilitation services, and laboratory support
  • Float to mixed acuity units only if required
  • Work every other weekend rotation; no on-call required
  • Follow holiday schedule based on facility plan
  • Clock in at 6:53 AM and be present for huddle at 7:00 AM

Shift & Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts, days (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
  • Minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation; no on-call required
  • Holiday schedule based on facility plan

Patient Population

  • Stroke, neuro conditions, intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), neurosurgery overflow, post TPA care, post mechanical thrombectomy
  • Ratios: RN 4-6 patients based on acuity, 2 certified nursing assistants (CNAs) per shift, clerical support during the day

Required Qualifications

  • Valid NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • 2 years of clinical experience
  • Valid nursing license for Kentucky

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in high acuity or stroke units highly desirable

  • 24 hours (3 days) NEO
  • 12-hour shift orientation at the end of the first week and at the start of the second week
