Job Summary

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse position available in Springfield, Illinois. This role involves providing specialized care in a fast-paced adult-focused acute care setting, managing a diverse patient population with complex needs. The RN will deliver high-quality patient care aligned with facility protocols, with a flexible scheduling option to accommodate candidate preferences.

Job Details

  • Location: Springfield, Illinois
  • Shift: 12-hour days (0645-1915), with flexibility to accommodate 4x12s if preferred
  • Schedule: Dayshift, minimum of 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois nursing license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certifications
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in telemetry, neuro stepdown, or PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown units

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
  • Cerner charting system experience
  • Prior Level I trauma center or teaching hospital experience preferred

Patient Care Experience

  • Managing patients with neuro and cardiac conditions
  • Including dysrhythmia interpretation, post-cardiac procedures, ventilated patients, and complex medication administration

Clinical Skills

  • Cardiac monitoring
  • Dysrhythmia management
  • Use of rapid response teams
  • Invasive line management
  • Feeding tube care
  • Ventilator care
  • Wound management
  • Trauma patient care

Special Procedures

  • Tracheostomy management
  • Sheaths and arterial lines
  • Neuro assessments following neurosurgery
  • Orthopedic trauma care
  • Surgical drain management

Work Setting

  • Very fast-paced, adult ICU/PCU
  • Approximately 34 patients daily
  • Interdisciplinary support including respiratory therapy, social services, pharmacy, and interpretation services

Additional Information

  • RTO restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
  • Orientation includes a 24-hour onboarding process
  • Candidates must have active licensure in Illinois, arrive prepared for compliance requirements, and work two major holidays per year

Pay Package

The pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
