Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination and dissection of large/complex specimens and small biopsies
• Cut and stain frozen sections as needed
• Provide macroscopic descriptions of specimens
• Triage fresh tissue for lymphoma workups (flow cytometry)
• Identify glomeruli for medical renal cores
• Prepare tissues for histologic processing and sectioning
• Float within the lab as needed within the PA scope of practice
• Support a team consisting of four pathologists and roughly six histotechnologists
• Manage a typical workload of about 200 blocks per day, with specimens including heavy breast resections, uterus, lung, colon resections, and small biopsies

Requirements

• New York State PA license active at submission and start date
• ASCP-PA certification
• Minimum 1 year of Pathology Assistant experience (travel experience preferred)
• Experience in surgical pathology with heavy breast service
• Epic charting experience required
• Ability to float within the hospital as needed to support the PA duties
