Job Summary
Step Down Unit RN located in Marshfield, Wisconsin. This position requires delivering specialized care for patients transitioning from acute to less intensive settings. The role involves managing a diverse patient population with cardiac, respiratory, and general medical conditions in a fast-paced, acute care environment.
Job Details
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with a minimum of 48 hours per week.
Certifications Required
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- NIHSS
Location Requirements
- Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility.
Beds and Patient Ratios
- 28 beds;
- patient ratios are approximately 1:5 during day/evening shifts and 1:6-7 during night shifts, with an average of 6 patients per nurse.
Patient Population
- Up to 75% cardiology-related patients including pre/post procedures, chest pain, NSTEMIs, and general medical patients such as CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, wounds, and overflow strokes.
Experience or Skills
- At least 1 year of Telemetry (Tele), Intermediate Care (IMC)/Stepdown RN experience;
- proficient in drip medication management (insulin, heparin, nitro, diltiazem, Lasix);
- strong communication and teamwork skills;
- heavy cardiac unit experience preferred;
- previous travel experience is a plus.
Monitoring and Equipment
- Ability to read telemetry strips required;
- tele monitors provided by technicians stationed elsewhere;
- equipment includes continuous Cpap & Bipap, high flow, vapotherm, nebulizers, chest physiotherapy, no ventilators.
Additional Responsibilities
- Charge RNs manage patient assignments and act as a resource;
- Nurse Aides available with ratio of 1:9 day/evening and 1:14 nights;
- floating may be required to other Medical/Surgical floors and specialties depending on staffing needs.
Orientation
- 1 day of facility-specific orientation (12 hours off-unit, 12 hours on-unit).
Dress Code
- Professional attire;
- scrub color is flexible and must be kept clean.
Schedule and Rotation
- No self-scheduling;
- efforts made to accommodate block scheduling.
Other Notes
- Floating to other Med/Surg floors and specialties may be necessary;
- staff may be scheduled in 4-hour blocks, and there is no on-call requirement.

Pay Package
The pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 48 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
