About the role

A Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) position is available in a healthcare facility located in Brookfield, Wisconsin. This role involves providing specialized patient care to a diverse patient population, including stroke, cardiac (preferably with experience in cardiac drips), post-operative patients (orthopedic, urology, gynecology, general surgery), and general medical cases. The RN must be adaptable and comfortable caring for a wide variety of medical conditions, with the ability to float onsite or to sites within a 40-mile radius if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized patient care in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting.
  • Care for patients with conditions such as stroke, cardiac issues (including cardiac drips), post-operative recovery (orthopedic, urology, gynecology, general surgery), and general medical cases.
  • Float to other units or sites within a 40-mile radius as needed.
  • Utilize Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for patient documentation.

Requirements

  • Active RN license.
  • Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • At least 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical (MS) or Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU).
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
  • Travel nursing experience.
  • Adaptability to care for a wide variety of patients, including stroke, cardiac, post-op, and general medical cases.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Familiarity with trauma or step-down patient care.

Schedule

  • Night shifts, 12 hours per shift.
  • Minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Duration: 13 weeks, starting 08/16/2026.
