Job Summary

The medical surgical oncology floor registered nurse (RN) position is located in Peoria, Illinois. This role involves providing specialized care for patients undergoing oncology treatments, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy, within a 19-bed unit. The position offers a 12-hour shift schedule, with flexible start times to meet unit needs, supporting a broad range of cancer patient care.

Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts
  • Start times at 0700 or 1900, depending on unit requirements
  • Work every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday for days, Friday/Saturday for nights)
  • Every other holiday as staffing permits

Required Qualifications

  • Active Illinois nursing license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • Oncology Nursing Society/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation chemotherapy immunotherapy certificate
  • Minimum of 1 year of RN experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy medication administration, including handling precautions and monitoring for medication side effects
  • Familiarity with Epic Beacon electronic medical record documentation
  • Experience in acute care oncology settings

Duties

  • Administer chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens
  • Maintain patient safety by monitoring patients for medication side effects
  • Manage patient care using electronic health records
  • Provide technical assistance with BIPAP and CPAP equipment (as applicable)
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, including charge nurses and patient care technicians

Additional Information

  • The unit operates with a dedicated charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7
  • PCTs are utilized to support patient care
  • Telemetry monitors are used across the department, but RNs are not required to interpret strips
  • The unit employs Epic Beacon for documentation and adheres to a specific dress code, with scrubs provided as needed
  • Floating rotations are part of the staffing model, and self-scheduling is coordinated to meet unit needs

Pay Package

The pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
