About the role

Medical Surgical Floor Nurse in a 27-bed facility located in Ellsworth, Maine. The position involves working with a diverse patient population including total joints, general medical/surgical cases, urology, cardiac, and other specialties. The role requires flexibility to float to ICU and Emergency Department as needed and supports addressing a variety of clinical needs with a focus on patient care excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care on a Medical Surgical floor with patient ratios of 1:5-6 during day shifts and 1:6-7 during night shifts
  • Float to ICU for Medical Surgical level patients and to Emergency Department as needed
  • Perform duties including but not limited to: interpreting cardiac strips, managing chest tubes, traches, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, epidurals, IV antibiotics, and Heparin infusions
  • Assist with ADLs, feeding, tray setup, answering call bells, vital signs, blood sugars, patient ambulation, and range of motion exercises
  • Make two attempts to start own IVs before seeking assistance
  • Work rotating shifts with a minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Rotate every other weekend; available for 2 out of 4 holidays as needed

Requirements

  • RN certification
  • BLS certification
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Registered Nurse (nursing home experience accepted)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACLS certification
  • Previous Charge RN experience
  • Willingness to be trained as Charge Nurse if not already experienced

Skills

  • Familiarity with chest tubes, traches, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, epidurals, IV antibiotics, and Heparin infusions
  • Ability to interpret cardiac strips
  • Charge nurse experience (preferred but not mandatory)

Support & Orientation

  • Charge nurse manages assignments
  • 24/7 support from RT, hospitalist, and centralized tele monitoring tech
  • General hospital orientation plus one shift on the unit
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Travel pairs allowed to work the same weekend
  • Time off must be approved by the manager
  • Professional attire required (scrubs of any color)

Pay

Pay package is based on 12-hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
