Job Summary

Medical Surgical Floor Nurse located in an acute care setting. This position involves working on a unit dedicated to infectious diseases, including COVID, MRSA, and C-Diff, with a focus on med-surg patient care, isolation precautions, and infectious disease management. The role requires providing patient care utilizing a variety of IV medications and antibiotics, with additional responsibilities including floating to other med-surg units as needed.

Schedule

  • 12 Hour Night Shifts: 0700-1930; 1900-0730 with a half-hour lunch break
  • Schedule is based on the needs of the unit; self-scheduling for permanent staff and block scheduling for travelers
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

  • Valid BLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical-surgical and infectious disease nursing
  • Licensed registered nurse (RN) in good standing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of isolation precautions, infectious diseases, and management of titratable IV medications such as Heparin and antibiotics
  • Experience working with Cpap, BiPap, or high-flow oxygen therapies
  • Ability to work independently on night shifts

Additional Information

  • Unit includes a charge nurse available 24/7
  • Nurse aides (2 per shift) are present to assist during the shift
  • No vents are present, though patients on Cpap, BiPap, or high flow may be managed as per RT
  • Remote telemetry monitoring is available, but RN staff are not responsible for reading or interpreting strips
  • Orientation involves 1 day of EPIC electronic medical record training, followed by 1-day precepted floor orientation, then independent practice on the third day
  • Travelers are considered first to float and may be assigned to other med-surg units or tele units within skillset
  • Holiday work may be required based on staffing needs, including every-other-weekend work
  • Floating to other units is required as needed
  • Royal blue scrubs are required for dress code; scrub jackets permitted but must be royal blue, no hoodies or sweat-jackets
