About the role

This Medical Surgical Floor nurse position is located in Carroll, Iowa. The role involves providing nursing care in a 19-bed unit specializing in general medical and surgical patients, including pediatric cases. The assignment requires delivering quality care in a fast-paced environment, supporting various patient needs such as pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, and post-surgical recovery.

Schedule

12-hour shifts starting at 7:00 AM, with a 6-week cyclic schedule; minimum of 36 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care in a 19-bed general medical-surgical unit, including pediatric cases
• Manage patient needs such as pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, and post-surgical recovery
• Float to CCU or OB units as needed
• Participate in quality initiatives
• Interpret telemetry (no telemetry techs on staff)
• Manage Heparin drips (preferred experience)

Requirements

• Valid nursing license
• ACLS (American Heart Association)
• BLS (American Heart Association)
• PALS certification
• Minimum of 3 years of general medical-surgical or pediatric experience
• At least 1 year of travel nursing experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Heparin drip management
• Telemetry interpretation skills

Special Unit Notes

• Nurse-to-patient ratios goal of 1:4, potentially up to 1:6
• Physical keys required for medication drawer access with security protocols in place
