About the role
The Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) Nurse is responsible for providing specialized patient care within a progressive care setting located in a hospital environment. This role involves delivering high-quality nursing services to adult patients with varying acuity levels in a fast-paced, adaptable environment.
Job details
- Start date: September 7, 2026
- Duration: 13 weeks (through December 7, 2026)
- Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Float rotation may be required to MS & Surgical units, with occasional coverage in Intensive Care Units to care for patients boarding in the IMCU
- Unit: 26 beds with 6-7 registered nurses scheduled per shift, utilizing acuity-based staffing ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and occasionally 1:3
- Equipment: GE Telemetry monitors, Baxter Sigma Spectrum IV pumps, Hill-Rom patient beds
- Dress code: teal scrubs
- At least four weekend shifts per four-week schedule required
- No mandated on-call requirement
Required qualifications
- At least 2 years of recent hospital experience in an Intermediate Care Unit or similar setting
- Valid Virginia (VA) license or Compact license recognized in multiple states
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Experience with IV infusions including Amiodarone, Nitro, Heparin, Milrinone, Cardazem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Lasix, and IV Push medications like Labetalol and Metoprolol
- Experience with MediTech electronic medical records
- Extra shift availability
- Proficiency in post-cardiac catheterization recovery techniques
