About the Role
- Position: Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Days)
- Location: Newburgh, IN (Medical Ortho MS RN - Days)
- Start Date: 08/10/2026
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week (will accept 48s upon request)
- Shift: 12-hour days, 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM
- Bi-weekly orientation
- NO LOCAL CANDIDATES (40-mile radius rule)
Responsibilities
- Provide care for a combination of medical and surgical patients, excluding cardiac-heavy cases
- Patient population includes: confusion/BH/CIWA, CHF, COPD, UTI, cellulitis, sepsis, amputations, decubitus ulcers, and general surgeries
- Administer IV fluid and antibiotic therapies
- Perform strong medical and post-surgical assessments
- Manage heparin drips, wounds/wound vacs, and basic telemetry
- Float within skillset as required: first to float; may float to Deaconess Midtown (IN) campus (8 miles apart) and potentially to Deaconess Henderson (KY, 11 miles) with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float; mid-shift float within same campus (cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely but possible)
- Work three weekends out of every six-week schedule and every other holiday
- May be required to precept students and new hires (teaching hospital)
Requirements & Qualifications
- Current active compact license (must be attached upon submittal)
- AHA BLS certification (must be attached upon submittal)
- NIHSS certification (must be attached upon submittal)
- Minimum of two years of strong Med/Surg experience
- At least 1 travel assignment completed
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Recent EPIC charting experience required (will be required to do a checkoff class)
- Unit: D500 - 32 beds, increasing to 37 beds (January 2025)
- Scrub color: Navy blue scrubs (no competing health systems or agency logos)
