About the role

The position involves performing laboratory procedures using established and approved protocols, maintaining quality control, instrument maintenance, and specimen procurement and processing. Responsibilities also include blood collection duties, keeping abreast of changes and updates to technical procedures, and recognizing abnormal or inconsistent results.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory procedures using established and approved protocols.
  • Maintains quality control, instrument maintenance, and specimen procurement and processing.
  • Collects blood samples in a timely manner to ensure availability of test results.
  • Interprets and verifies test results, investigating abnormal or inconsistent results as needed.
  • Communicates delays, issues, or potential problems to leadership.
  • Maintains workstations in a clean and organized manner.
  • Completes special projects as assigned, utilizing LIS, EMR, and other tools and resources.
  • Participates in student and new employee training, assisting in developing training curriculum.

Requirements

  • 2 years of Medical Lab Tech experience.
  • MLT or MLS Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent within 1 year of hire.
  • ASCP certification or equivalent within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, including an internship at an affiliated laboratory from an accredited institution within 2 months of hire.
  • Combined military experience and training that aligns with CLIA and CAP requirements.
  • Two years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Skills

Must have the ability to perform laboratory procedures independently, maintain quality control, and interpret test results accurately.

Pay

Based on 8 hour shifts and 40 hours per week, with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.

Schedule

Varies, mostly first shift but may include some second shift. First shift hours are either 0500-1330, or 0600-1430. Second shift hours are either 1100-1930, 1300-2130, or 1330-2200. Includes weekend rotation and possible holidays that fall within the assignment.
