About the role

The position involves performing laboratory procedures using established protocols, maintaining quality control, and ensuring timely test results.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory procedures using established and approved protocols with minimal technical supervision.
  • Responsible for quality control, instrument maintenance, specimen procurement, and processing.
  • Performs blood collection duties as needed to ensure timely test results.
  • Keeps updated on technical procedures and follows established protocols for interpreting and verifying test results.
  • Investigates abnormal or inconsistent results and notifies leadership of potential problems to avoid compromising patient care.
  • Completes work assignments in a timely manner, adjusts to fluctuating workloads, and maintains clean and organized workstations.
  • Actively participates in training new employees and students, covering training materials thoroughly.
  • Communicates effectively with peers and leadership regarding issues, delays, or potential problems.
  • Performs required quality control procedures, documents results, and takes corrective actions as needed.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory instruments, documents issues, and communicates with technical support when necessary.
  • Suggests process improvements and participates in continuing education annually.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, including an internship at an affiliated laboratory from an accredited institution, required within 2 months of hire.
  • Combined military experience and training that aligns with CLIA and CAP requirements.
  • MLT or MLS Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent required within 1 year of hire.
  • ASCP certification or equivalent required within 6 months of hire.
  • Two years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • US Citizen preferred.

Effective communication skills, ability to address customer inquiries, requests, and concerns, and suggestions for process improvement opportunities.

Pay and Schedule

Pay package is based on 10 hour shifts and 70 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
