About the Role

An Occupational Therapist (OT) helps individuals of all ages overcome physical, mental, or developmental challenges that limit their ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs). The OT works with patients to develop, recover, or maintain the skills necessary for work, leisure, and self-care. They create individualized treatment plans and work with patients to improve fine motor skills, cognitive abilities, and overall functional independence.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial assessments to understand patients' needs, strengths, limitations, and goals using standardized tests, interviews, and observations.
• Develop a comprehensive evaluation report identifying areas of improvement, potential goals, and required interventions.
• Create personalized treatment plans based on assessment results, addressing specific patient needs and setting measurable goals for improvement in self-care, mobility, work performance, and cognitive skills.
• Recommend and implement therapeutic activities and exercises tailored to the patient’s abilities and progress.
• Provide interventions to improve motor skills, cognitive function, sensory processing, and social interaction through exercises, therapeutic games, and adaptive strategies.
• Work with patients on ADLs such as dressing, bathing, cooking, and using adaptive equipment for mobility.
• Teach patients new ways to complete tasks and daily activities, including ergonomic practices and assistive devices.
• Educate patients and their families about the rehabilitation process, techniques, and strategies for enhancing functional independence.
• Provide guidance on using adaptive equipment and tools (e.g., splints, mobility aids).
• Offer emotional support and encouragement throughout the recovery process.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including doctors, physical therapists, speech therapists, and nursing staff to provide comprehensive care.
• Participate in care planning meetings and share insights about patient progress and therapy requirements.
• Communicate regularly with families and caregivers to update them on progress and offer guidance on supporting therapy goals at home.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of patients’ progress, therapy sessions, and modifications to treatment plans.
• Document and report patient progress in compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
• Monitor and reassess patient progress regularly to ensure therapy goals are being met and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
• Help patients transition from therapy to independent living, ensuring they are prepared to manage daily tasks outside of a clinical environment.
• Advocate for patients to ensure access to necessary resources and support services.
• Provide information about community programs, support groups, and other resources that may assist in rehabilitation.
• Stay current with new developments in occupational therapy by participating in workshops, seminars, and continuing education courses.
• Ensure licensure and certifications remain up-to-date.

Schedule

• 40 hours per week
• 8-hour day shifts

Pay

Pay package is based on 8-hour shifts and 40.0 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
