About the role
Emergency Room (ER) Nurse Level III community hospital in a large metropolitan area. This 17-week contract opportunity involves working in a high-volume, bustling Emergency Department that manages a wide spectrum of patient acuity levels. The role provides exposure to diverse patient populations from neonates to geriatrics, with a focus on trauma, stroke, cardiac, behavioral health, and pediatric emergencies.
The ER operates in zones with a patient nurse ratio of approximately 1:3-5 based on acuity. The department features a Fast Track area with 13 beds in the green zone. The ED sees 200-250 patients daily, and the facility serves as a transfer center for neurosurgery, multi-system trauma, and high-acuity pediatric patients. The ER does not require floating staff and requires flexibility for every other weekend rotations, including the potential for back-to-back weekends.
EMR system used is Epic.
Schedule
- Night shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- Minimum of 36 hours per week
- 12-hour shifts
Responsibilities
- Manage medication administration using barcode scanning
- Handle medication drips and blood product administration
- Perform triage (must pass hospital triage test)
- Set up chest tubes and arterial lines
- Assist with trauma and code cases
- Perform splinting
- Operate BIPAP/vents
- Utilize Emergency Severity Index (ESI) for patient assessment
- Experience with Point of Care Labs (preferred)
Requirements
- Valid ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC certifications
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a large-volume emergency department with high patient acuity
- Triage experience
- Pediatric emergency medicine experience (preferred)

Pay
Pay package is based on 12-hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
