Responsibilities
- Aid in specimen handling, labeling, and delivery to the appropriate department
- Decontaminate instruments and assist in efficient turnover of the operating room between cases
- Maintain instrument and sponge counts
- Pass instruments and sutures to the surgeon; assist with gowning and gloving as needed
- Prepare the patient and room for planned procedures; open sterile supplies and set up instruments
- Support procedural setup and room readiness for subsequent cases
- Supportive role in assisting with transportation and positioning of patients undergoing cardiovascular procedures
Requirements
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent
- Certification pathway: Choose one from Certified (successfully pass the Certified Surgical Technologist exam [NBSTSA or NCCT]) or Non-Certified (graduate of an OR technician program accredited through ARC/STSA or on-the-job/military training; evidence of training required)
- Experience: 6 months of experience or specialized training appropriate to the role (non-certified path)
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) required

- Ability to work in a hospital OR setting and participate in rotating call requirements
