Responsibilities

• Aid in specimen handling, labeling, and delivery to the appropriate department
• Decontaminate instruments and assist in efficient turnover of the operating room between cases
• Maintain instrument and sponge counts
• Pass instruments and sutures to the surgeon; assist with gowning and gloving as needed
• Prepare the patient and room for planned procedures; open sterile supplies and set up instruments
• Support procedural setup and room readiness for subsequent cases
• Supportive role in assisting with transportation and positioning of patients undergoing cardiovascular procedures

Requirements

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent
• Certification pathway: Choose one from Certified (successfully pass the Certified Surgical Technologist exam [NBSTSA or NCCT]) or Non-Certified (graduate of an OR technician program accredited through ARC/STSA or on-the-job/military training; evidence of training required)
• Experience: 6 months of experience or specialized training appropriate to the role (non-certified path)
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) required

• Ability to work in a hospital OR setting and participate in rotating call requirements
