About the role

Assures complete and accurate data is collected and maintained for all injured patients admitted and trauma patients who meet the inclusion criteria for the trauma program. Reviews hospital records to locate all trauma-activated patients and those injured patients not activated that meet State collection criteria. Collects comprehensive, accurate data relating to trauma patients by abstracting all trajectories of care, verifies and updates all compiled information, and enters data into the State Trauma system concurrently.

Performs coding of injuries, procedures, and causes of injuries using standard medical record references, specifically International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Tenth Revision codes. Assigns diagnoses Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and ICD-10-CM (Clinical Modification) codes, completes Injury Severity Scale (ISS), and other calculations. Responsible for timely data abstraction, entry, and management for injured patients meeting Montana Trauma Registry Criteria and/or National Trauma Data Bank criteria.

  • Follows and adheres to all requirements, regulations, and procedures of any licensing board or agency.
  • Complies with all Benefis Health System’s organization policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Completion of trauma registry course required or obtained upon hire.
  • Completion of AIS Coding Certification required within one (1) year of hire.
  • Completion of ICD-10 course required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Completion of CAISS certification within three (3) years of hire preferred.
  • Completion of CSTR certification within five (5) years of hire preferred.
  • Medical background is preferred.

Pay

Starting wage: $25.54/hour. Actual offered wage is based on applicable experience.
