Transporter - Saint Mary Campus
About the role
This position involves direct patient contact and frequent interactions with various healthcare professionals. The role requires transporting patients, visitors, and patient-related items safely and efficiently. Communication with the care team is essential, including confirming patient identification during handoffs.
Responsibilities
- Transport patients, visitors, and patient-related items in a safe and efficient manner.
- Provide detailed verbal communication to appropriate care team members as part of the handoff during drop off and pick up of patients.
- Operate multiple types of motorized patient transport equipment safely.
- Disinfect equipment after each patient use and request maintenance as needed.
- Perform wheelchair roundups to storage locations or designated floors.
- Stand and/or walk 10-12 miles per 8-hour shift, frequently pushing/pulling patients up to 200 pounds and occasionally up to or exceeding 350 pounds.
- Transport patients who require the use of oxygen, intravenous pumps, wound vacs, and other special equipment.
- Use various medical equipment and partner with the healthcare team to ensure patient safety.
- Monitor patient’s condition during transport when a patient care staff member is not accompanied.
- Recognize and monitor changes in the patient’s condition which may require a medical emergency call.
- Work days, evenings, overnights, holidays, and weekends with rotating days off.
- Attend meetings outside of normal work schedule and assist in the training of new employees.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and three years customer service experience required.
- One-year previous hospital, clinical, or patient care experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently and in a group setting with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional verbal communication skills, telephone, and human relations skills to interact with patients, guests, and staff.
- Effective communication in a professional and respectful manner during high-stress situations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to unpredictable and stressful situations.
- Exceptional initiative and a proven ability to quickly respond to customer needs in a fast-paced work environment.
- Basic computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Qualifications
