General Summary of Position
Transports patients, specimens, records, medications, and schedules.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Adheres to schedule for pickup and delivery of patient diagnostic results/medications to nursing units.
- Responds to stat deliveries promptly.
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
- Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Delivers and picks up messages, packages, medical records, interoffice mail, etc., to offices and departments.
- Maintains a supply of wheelchairs and stretchers at designated areas.
- Reports malfunctioning or safety hazards of transport equipment.
- Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of rooms, equipment, or area assigned including wheelchairs, stretchers, portable machines, etc.
- Observes patient's general condition when patient in their care.
- Observes proper condition of patient's IV, urine retention bags, oxygen, chest tubes, and other medical devices while patient is in transit.
- Notifies nursing personnel of any difficulties.
- Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
- Provides relief coverage when necessary to ensure continuity of service.
- Transports patients to and from clinical ancillary and support department areas as directed.
- Notifies nursing unit personnel on departure and return of patients being transported according to department standards.
- Affirms patient safety and comfort, assists patients when needed, cleans, and redresses patient when needed.
- Affords appropriate isolation techniques when handling isolation patients.
- Affords assistance to clinical personnel in transferring patient to or from beds, chairs, wheelchairs, or stretchers.
- Puts drug orders away prior to end of shift.
- Maintains a clean work area.
- Removes all expired stock and gives to buyer for proper disposal.
- Initials and dates log sheet.
- Returns inventory to proper locations after completing work task.
- Cleans and returns materials used to proper locations after completing work tasks.
- Discards wrappers, label backings, and other work-related debris in waste receptacles.
Minimal Qualifications
- Education: Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations; required and High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience: Less than 1 year 3 months related experience preferred.
- Licenses and Certifications: CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required. Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Good verbal and written communication skills; basic computer skills preferred.
Hiring Range
This position has a hiring range of USD $18.00 - USD $29.74 /Hr.
