Transportation Training Manager
About the role
The Supply Chain Training Manager oversees all Supply Chain onboarding and training (classroom, on-the-job, train-the-trainer, etc.), with a focus on new hires (Selectors & Drivers) during their first 90 days. This role drives continuous improvement in safety, performance standards, engagement, and retention through learning and performance solutions such as feedback, coaching, and mentorship programs within Supply Chain operations.
In collaboration with Market Operations Leaders, this role mentors lead trainers and new hires during a multi-week training program and oversees the assimilation, onboarding, and assessment of new talent. The Supply Chain Training Manager conducts training needs analysis and identifies opportunities to enhance safety, productivity, and retention using observations, data, analytics, and feedback.
Responsibilities
- Owns execution of warehouse training (classroom and on-the-job) for new Selectors and Drivers during their first 90 days through coaching and mentoring of Selector and Driver Trainers, and delivers training when necessary.
- Leads a team of Supply Chain Trainers and new hires through a multi-week onboarding period (first 90 days), measured by productivity, quality, reliability, safety, culture integration, job knowledge, and retention.
- Directs and coordinates all aspects of onboarding and training, including scheduling resources, conducting classroom and on-the-job training, performing observations, acting as a subject-matter expert on processes and milestones, and tracking metrics for success.
- Provides actionable performance and behavioral feedback and coaching in both classroom and on-the-job environments to trainers and new hires.
- Facilitates mentoring of new Selectors and Drivers to drive engagement through the onboarding process.
- Analyzes and tracks weekly performance of trainers and associates (30/60/90-day milestones) to ensure expectations are met.
- Collects data to assess the safety, effectiveness, retention, and sustainability of training for continuous program improvement.
- Ensures new and existing associates safely follow preferred procedures while meeting productivity goals.
- Partners with Vice President of Operations, Directors, HR, and Supervisors/Managers to monitor progress and performance of new selectors, identify coaching opportunities, and improve performance.
- Actively participates in required routines, including UMOS steering, labor planning, and others.
- Reports performance and retention data to HR and Learning & Development, providing training recommendations and strategies based on trends.
- May consult in the interview, hire, performance review, discipline, and termination processes in collaboration with the Vice President of Operations and HR to align training needs.
- Regularly inspects the facility for safety hazards, resolving or reporting them to the safety manager as appropriate.
- Jointly accountable (with warehouse leadership) for maintaining the physical condition of the warehouse and its equipment.
- Performs assigned duties for area markets as needed, which may require travel.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the manager.
Supervision
- Directly supervises all Selector and Driver new hires (~20 at any given time) during their onboarding (Day 1 – Day 90).
- Oversees Market on-the-job trainers, where applicable.
Relationships
- Internal: Vice President of Operations, Directors, HR, Supervisors/Managers, and Supply Chain Associates.
- External: Training course vendors and regulatory compliance agencies, as applicable.
Work Environment
- Inside and outside of distribution centers, with exposure to heat, cold (freezer and cooler).
- Internal, associate-facing role.
- Travel via air and car (rental) may be required.
Requirements
- Two years of training/facilitation experience.
- One year of experience overseeing a workforce.
- Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- College degree.
- Training/facilitation experience in a Supply Chain and/or Warehouse environment.
- Prior experience and/or leadership/direct supervision in a Supply Chain/Warehouse environment.
- Strong facilitation, leadership, communication, engagement, and development skills.
- Ability to compile and interpret operational metrics.
- Broad knowledge of warehouse operations, methods, and procedures.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Access.
- Familiarity with inventory control, OSHA, HAACP, and other regulatory requirements.
- Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) experience.

Pay
The expected base rate for this role is between $60,000 and $100,000, depending on relevant experience, education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law.
