Transportation Manager

Responsibilities

• Lead with a safety-first mindset to ensure injury-free operations for associates, customers, and the public.
• Champion safety procedures, processes, and training to maintain a safety-first culture in the Transportation department.
• Oversee and develop drivers and Transportation associates through coaching, training, and performance discussions.
• Ensure all drivers and associates are trained in job duties, safety, and legal responsibilities.
• Create an atmosphere of upward communication and motivate associates to achieve department goals.
• Direct and supervise the work and productivity of drivers and clerical associates.
• Drive associate engagement, retention, and a culture embodying US Foods values.
• Participate in hiring, review performance, coach on service and safety targets, and deliver disciplinary action.
• Monitor production goals and maintain a zero-error attitude for accuracy and customer satisfaction.
• Anticipate, analyze, and troubleshoot delivery problems; devise cost-effective and legal solutions.
• Ensure team adherence to DOT regulations and identify process improvements for safety and efficiency.
• Conduct routine Safety and Driver Meetings.
• Oversee maintenance of driver qualification files and investigate accidents to implement preventative actions.
• Effectively schedule working shifts using planning tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Minimum of three years of experience in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution.
• Minimum of one year of experience overseeing a workforce.
• Experience as a driver is a plus.
• Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods, and procedures.
• Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills.
• Strong understanding of DOT requirements.
• Familiarity with inventory control, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
• Ability to interpret financial and operational data.
• Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office).
• High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.

Work Environment

• May spend significant time on the road.
• Must spend portion of working time in a truck with drivers, exposed to noise and vibration levels higher than typical passenger cars.
• Will spend time in an office working on a computer.

Pay

The expected base rate for this role is between $60,000 - $95,000, depending on relevant experience, education, skills, function, and geographic location.
