About the Role

The Transportation Support Specialist provides transportation to patients to and from treatment, medical appointments, urgent care visits, and other locations as directed by the Administrative Manager in a safe and timely manner. This role may also assist in patient care activities, including monitoring patient safety, leading educational and recreational activities, and accompanying patients to examinations and treatments.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients and/or staff
  • Performs and documents daily vehicle inspections to ensure safety
  • Processes patient belongings for new admissions and visitation items, including search, inspection, sanitization (heat treatment), and delivery
  • Monitors patient activities, provides security checks, and completes documentation (e.g., rounds sheet, Incident reports, records patient behavior)
  • Manages high-risk or re-engagement incidents
  • Communicates with program leadership/administrator on-call regarding safety, vehicle, or transportation issues
  • Coordinates with inter-disciplinary departments on new admissions, discharges, and transfers
  • Performs other assigned duties when patient transportation needs are low
  • May transport medical equipment, including medication

Requirements

  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience as a driver/transportation support specialist preferred
  • 6 months of experience in a health and human service-related field preferred
  • Maintains CPR certification
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload
  • Proficiency with technology hardware, systems, and tools required to perform duties (training provided as needed)

Work Environment

May work in professional offices, clinics, hospitals, or outpatient facilities. The role involves significant time seated in a motorized vehicle and on feet while actively working with patients. Noise level is moderate.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to talk or hear
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Technology & Personal Device Requirements

This position requires the use of a personal smartphone or similar mobile device to perform essential job functions, including installing and using employer-designated applications. Compliance with company policies regarding security, confidentiality, and acceptable use is mandatory.

Additional Notes

A former patient may not be hired at the same location where they were treated until a minimum of one year has elapsed since the completion of their treatment. Former patients may be considered for employment at other locations within a year after treatment, subject to the standard hiring process and without compromising ethical standards, patient care, or the organization’s reputation.
