Transportation Supervisor
About the role
We are seeking a Transportation Supervisor to supervise, direct, and coordinate activities of the transportation department, including Drivers, dispatching personnel, and third-party driver service providers. This role ensures daily routing optimizes efficiency while prioritizing and scheduling deliveries consistent with customer service goals. You will provide strong leadership and ensure compliance with Union CBA, PJP Handbook, and company values.
Responsibilities
- Lead and direct a team of Drivers, dispatch personnel, and roadside assistance.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the transportation department, including routing, field operations, dispatch, DOT compliance, reporting, and safety.
- Perform or oversee routing functions as needed; maintain Omnitracs database, customer locations, time windows, and other information as directed by management.
- Provide direction and exemplary leadership to direct reports; hire, train, and manage team performance in accordance with company goals, standards, and values.
- Support Transportation Manager and HR with safety and DOT compliance, including maintenance of Driver Qualification (DQ) files and proper reporting/investigation of accidents and injuries.
- Ensure compliance with Union CBA; partner with Transportation Manager, HR, and Shop Stewards to maintain a working relationship with the Union.
- Monitor, control, and optimize productivity by ensuring each truck carries as much as possible; schedule loads to minimize the use of third-party drivers.
- Collaborate with internal departments to align strategy, service customers, and reach company performance goals.
- Select specific trucks for each route based on volume and equipment availability.
- Investigate customer complaints regarding lost or damaged merchandise or shipment shortages to determine responsibility.
- Schedule shipments to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company policy.
- Conduct ride-a-longs with drivers regularly to evaluate delivery area, accuracy, and customer service standards; provide leadership and coaching.
- Perform routine filing and maintenance of records.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in a transportation supervisory role, preferably in a distribution environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
- Ability to fill in for Router and Dispatcher as needed.
- Strong working knowledge of FMSCA/DOT regulations and safety compliance measures.
- Experience with Roadnet or comparable routing software; ability to learn all Daycon delivery routes to ensure efficient routing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products such as Excel and Word.
- Union experience is a plus but not required.
- Ability to stay customer-focused while operating within company standards and protocols.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
- Valid Driver’s License and safe driving history; DOT Certification is a plus but not required.

Pay
The pay range for this role is $77,000–$85,000 per year. This range represents what the company reasonably expects to pay based on current market data, internal equity, and other business factors. Actual compensation may vary depending on relevant experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations.
