Transportation Supervisor, ASUM New

Job Summary

The Transportation Supervisor works independently with moderate direct supervision from ASUM Transportation Director. This is a safety-sensitive role, subject to FTA Drug & Alcohol Program testing regulations.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

• Direct daily transit operations by dispatching buses via radio, phone, and CAD/AVL systems; assign vehicles, monitor service, manage detours, emergencies, and service alerts, and coordinate shift coverage as needed.
• Serve as UDASH Safety Coordinator by implementing the safety program, leading Safety Committee meetings, conducting investigations and inspections, providing reasonable suspicion referrals, and performing light vehicle maintenance while coordinating major repairs.
• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise student bus operators and service assistants to ensure safe and reliable transit operations.
• Lead CDL training programs and policy instruction, develop training materials, and maintain operator manuals to ensure compliance with licensing and operational standards.
• Oversee transit operations administration, including inventory and supply management, budget support, weekly timekeeping reviews, and biweekly student payroll processing.
• Support strategic planning and continuous improvement by participating in departmental planning, serving on campus and external committees, and assisting with special projects and operational initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with University, Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations while maintaining safe, efficient, and customer-focused transit services.

  Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience with transportation scheduling, dispatch, or operations management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in high-pressure situations.
  • Possess or be able to obtain the following licenses and certifications within 30 days of hire:
    • A valid Montana Class B Commercial Driver License with passenger and airbrake endorsement.
    • A drug and alcohol reasonable suspicion certification as outlined by Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
    • TSI Transit Supervisor Certification.
    • TSI Instructors Course for Transit Trainers.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Five (5) years in commercial vehicle operations.
    • A bachelor’s degree in business, communications, environmental studies, or related fields.
    • Working knowledge of FTA regulations and Safety Management Systems (SMS).
    • Familiarity with local geography and campus locations.

    Additional Information

    Compensation Title: Transportation Supervisor
    Union: FOCUS-MFPE
    Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Typically Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, 12 months/year, occasional night and weekend on-call shifts required.
    Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
