About the role

The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (CT DOT) is seeking a Transportation Supervising Engineer (Engineering) for the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Division of Bridges, within the Consultant Bridge Design - Consultant Liaison Engineer (CLE) Program.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee work of engineers, technicians and other technical and/or clerical personnel, including but not limited to:
  • Developing and/or making recommendations on bridge design standards;
  • Preparing reports, recommendations and correspondence;
  • Supervising office functions for design projects;
  • Supervising preparation of comprehensive technical reports and related correspondence;
  • Making oral presentations at public information meetings and hearings;
  • Reviewing work of consultant engineers;
  • Ensuring that consultant developed plans, specifications, estimates, and other deliverables are complete, and compliant.

Requirements

This position requires active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection State Board of Examiners for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors consistent with C.G.S.20-302. Applicants must be available to travel to and attend trainings, conferences, public meetings, field reviews, emergency responses, etc., both within and outside of normal working hours, when necessary. A valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained.

Qualifications

To be considered, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection State Board of Examiners for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors;
  • Experience overseeing work of engineers, technicians, and other technical and/or clerical personnel;
  • Ability to develop and/or make recommendations on bridge design standards;
  • Experience preparing reports, recommendations, and correspondence;
  • Experience supervising office functions for design projects;
  • Experience supervising preparation of comprehensive technical reports and related correspondence;
  • Experience making oral presentations at public information meetings and hearings;
  • Experience reviewing work of consultant engineers;
  • Experience ensuring that consultant developed plans, specifications, estimates, and other deliverables are complete, and compliant.

Skills

Strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite are preferred. Experience with project management software and familiarity with state transportation regulations are also beneficial.

Pay

Salary may be commensurate with education and/or experience in accordance with the P-4 union contract.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, Full Time, 40 hours per week, First Shift.
