Transportation Specialist

About the role

The Transportation Specialist works with consumers to develop Individualized Transportation Plans that reflect the consumers' transportation needs, goals, and preferences. Program Specialists ensure compliance with program rules. The Transportation Specialist coordinates transportation services with area providers, human services agencies, and state agencies in their district and beyond, documents work in service records, and reports to the Program Manager. The role involves networking with agencies and transportation providers, conducting community outreach, and education activities to promote WIL services and enhance transportation options.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive consumer visits to establish individual transportation goals and plans to increase independence
• Prioritize and organize workload and schedule
• Ensure consumers function within the program rules and guidelines
• Maintain accurate and timely consumer records
• Prepare reports and complete agency paperwork within established deadlines
• Conduct community outreach and education activities
• Promote interagency collaboration to improve service delivery systems for people with disabilities
• Travel throughout the designated district to meet with consumers and other stakeholders
• Participate in staff training and related conferences/conventions
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in social services or related field preferred
• Personal experience with a disability is preferred
• Ability to enter/exit consumer homes, nursing homes, hospitals, and other community organizations
• Understanding and commitment to the Independent Living (IL) philosophy
• Self-starter, organized, and capable of working independently
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact positively and work effectively with others
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Basic computer skills in web-based and PC software, email, fax, and copier
• Reliable vehicle to travel within designated service area
