Transportation Roadway Engineer
VHB’s Richmond and Virginia Beach, VA offices are seeking a Transportation Roadway Engineer to join our multi-disciplined team. Responsibilities
- Perform engineering duties as a Project Engineer, including analysis and design for complex transportation projects, grading, and plan development.
- Contribute to the design and production of transportation projects such as highway widenings/reconstructions, intersection improvements, roundabouts, and shared-use/bike-pedestrian facilities.
- Help develop and deliver client-facing documents, including construction plans, while maintaining adherence to project budgets and schedules.
- Apply VHB standards and industry best practices to ensure quality control of work products.
- Support marketing efforts through technical input for proposals and presentation materials.
- Contribute to the coordination of multi-disciplinary design teams, including collaboration with subconsultants.
- Partner with technical specialists to resolve design challenges, coordination issues, and conflicting criteria.
- Provide support during the bidding phase, including preparation of addenda, amendments, and bid reviews/tabulations.
- Participate in construction phase services, including site visits, responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings.
- Mentor and support the professional growth of entry-level Transportation staff.
Requirements
- BS in Civil Engineering required; MS a plus.
- 5+ years of professional transportation engineering experience required.
- EIT required; PE certification preferred.
Skills
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and willingness to serve in a variety of roles within a design team.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- AutoCAD with Civil 3D Corridor experience and/or MicroStation with Geopak, Open Roads experience, or Open Roads Designer is strongly preferred.
Pay
The base salary range for this position is $85,000 to $120,000 for Virginia. This offer is determined based on job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, and geographic location.
