Transportation Repairman

About the role

A member of the Garage personnel, this Transportation Repairman is responsible for servicing and maintaining the Electric Boat Fleet, including buses, vans, forklifts, tractor-trailers, and snow equipment. This person troubleshoots, repairs, and preventsively services equipment and vehicles with diesel and gasoline engines, as well as hydraulic, electric, and mechanical systems. Major portions of the work involve servicing the hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical subsystems of electric forklifts, including battery change-outs. This position supports snow/ice conditions.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and preventively service equipment and vehicles with diesel and gasoline engines, as well as hydraulic, electric, and mechanical systems.
• Servicing the hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical subsystems of electric forklifts, including battery change-outs.
• Support snow/ice conditions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalency.
• 5+ years of experience in fork-truck repair and operation.
• Familiar with DOT regulation and inspection requirements.
• Experience in Diesel and gasoline engines, heavy duty truck, light duty vehicles, hydraulic systems and electrical systems.
• Possess own personal tools up to 1” in size and ½” in drive in both standard and metric.
• ASE Certification for Heavy Duty truck and automotive CDL license preferred.
• Basic computer application user knowledge.

Qualifications

• Must be familiar with DOT regulations and inspection requirements.
• Must possess sufficient planning and organizational ability to establish and maintain a safe, clean, and well organized work area considering multiple projects may be on-going simultaneously.
• Must understand the operational capabilities of the equipment that can be deployed and must be aware of item’s technical and legal limitations.

• Capable of making decisions with supervisory oversight based on management objectives.
