About the role

The Transportation Quality Leader supervises or monitors all projects in progress in the department to ensure they are executed on time and in accordance with client requirements and company policies, procedures, and standards. They also supervise the preparation of proposals and cost estimates to clients to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of manpower, and pricing to achieve desired profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily operations of a department including staff training, development, and performance review, utilization of equipment and facilities, safety oversight, quality of services and work product, timely delivery of services and deliverables, and adherence to policies and procedure.
  • Plan for and participate in business development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships.
  • Oversee inspection and testing on large, complex and diverse transportation projects requiring expertise and knowledge in multiple areas of construction inspection and oversee the work of other testing and inspection personnel, including various scope leaders.
  • Coordinate quality through proactive communications with the Owner and Contractor.
  • Prepare and participate in client and proposal related presentations.
  • Develop and manage employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection and on-boarding.
  • Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and the specified procedures to determine if work is done according to contract specifications.
  • Prepare inspection reports and document nonconformance.
  • Communicate information to National Manager and other personnel as directed by the National Manager.
  • Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
  • Provide and lead continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor and promote quality standards and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology and 5 years’ practice experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 9 years’ related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
  • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.

Preferred Certification

  • Certification or licensure in field of expertise.
  • Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer status preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field
  • 14 years experience in construction inspection, particularly on Highway Bridge transportation construction projects.
  • Experience with Alternate Delivery Construction projects.
