About the role

GBA is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Roadways/Municipal Transportation Group in the Austin, TX office. This position involves managing and leading the design of transportation projects, building multidisciplinary project teams, and mentoring less experienced staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the design of transportation projects, including feasibility studies, roadway reconstruction and rehabilitation, intersections, local streets, arterials, FM/RM roadways, sidewalks, and ADA facilities.
  • Build and lead multidisciplinary project teams, providing technical guidance and hands-on support.
  • Plan, organize, and monitor project scope, schedules, and budgets to ensure successful delivery.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced staff, supporting their technical development and career growth.
  • Sustain and strengthen relationships with existing clients while developing new client partnerships.
  • Participate in business development activities, including proposals, client meetings, and marketing efforts to grow GBA’s presence in the Austin and Central Texas market.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver high-quality, coordinated solutions that meet client and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas (required).
  • 10+ years of experience in transportation project design, plan development, and project delivery.
  • Minimum 2 years of project and staff management experience (5+ years preferred).
  • Proven ability to lead design teams across a variety of transportation project types.
  • Experience developing and negotiating project scopes and fees, and managing budgets and schedules.
  • Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, practices, and regulatory requirements in Texas.
  • Local Government Project Procedures certification (preferred).
  • Established presence or strong relationship-building ability in the Central Texas market.
  • Experience with project pursuits, proposal development, and client presentations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels, both internally and externally.
