Transportation Planning Supervisor - Public Works
About the role
The City of Aurora is seeking a Transportation Planning Supervisor to lead and supervise the Transportation Planning team. The ideal candidate will guide the team in implementing the Connecting Aurora plan and secure grants for community projects.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the development of multimodal transportation solutions through the implementation of Aurora Places and the Connecting Aurora Transportation Master Plan.
- Manage and engage in the formulation of corridor studies and multi-modal transportation plans.
- Lead efforts to identify and apply for federal, state, and regional grants and their implementation.
- Provide interdepartmental multi-modal coordination and serve as a regional liaison.
- Foster relationships with City Council, airports, transportation authorities, and other relevant agencies.
- Ensure city leadership is informed of regional, state, and national efforts.
- Supervise and mentor multi-modal transportation planners.
- Support Public Works and Planning & Business Development departmental leadership.
- Facilitate and coordinate project reviews and concerns.
- Represent the city on external committees and working groups.
- Achieve compliance with professional ethics standards and rules of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and the American Planning Association (APA).
- Track and manage on-time performance of staff, review staff work and reports, and provide performance evaluations.
- Supervise staff including scheduling, managing workloads and priorities, including professional development, discipline, and performance evaluations.
- Develop innovative transportation planning methods including plans, programs, and policies for auto, bicycle, pedestrian, and transit infrastructure improvements.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Community and Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field, with a minimum of six (6) years of experience in planning, transportation planning, or a related field. Prior supervisory experience is preferred, and certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is preferred.
Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of employee supervision, project management; planning and development; and personal computers with related software applications including word processing, database management, and project management applications.
- Considerable knowledge of current principles and practices of community and regional planning, with a specific focus on transportation and multimodal planning, policy, delivery, and practice.
- Municipal zoning, codes, budgeting, and public policy process.
- Public presentation, interpersonal, organizational, leadership, and analytical skills.
- Writing skills and ability to produce reports using related word processing and spreadsheet applications while possessing a working knowledge of personal computers.
- Skill in building and maintaining effective working relationships and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
- Skill in checking information for accuracy and completeness and correcting errors.
- Organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills for understanding issues and solving problems.
- Skill in effectively presenting information.
- Computer operation using Microsoft suite Windows-based programs.
- Communicating planning concepts and policy.

Benefits
The hiring range for this role is $96,237 - $120,409 annually. Salary is commensurate with experience.
