Under general supervision, this position is responsible for direct driver management and supervision of a midsize driver count, ensuring safe and timely movement of freight, load assignment, and best-in-class customer service. The role ensures compliance with DOT regulations and company policies while working with internal and external contacts to plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 12:00 PM–9:00 PM
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and safety teams to minimize turnover and maximize productivity
- Fill in for absent personnel and assist with special projects to optimize fleet operations and achieve profitability
- Manage personnel, including training and orientation of drivers and employees on internal and third-party systems
- Analyze fleet operations and profitability, recommend improvements, determine key performance indicators, and create customer-specific reporting and financial analysis
- Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and driver assignments to balance equipment in the market
- Perform administrative duties such as payroll, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing, resolving pay issues, invoicing, and creating operational or financial reports
- Oversee yard operations, including equipment inspections, part replacements (e.g., mud flaps), repairs, and coordination with maintenance for preventative services and safety-related fixes
- Resolve service issues, routing/planning, mechanical problems, accessorial pay-related issues, and other operational challenges with drivers, customers, and company personnel
- Maintain the company’s safety culture through daily safety messages, monthly briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforcement of DOT compliance and company safety policies
- Assign loads and plan, route, and monitor freight movement to ensure safe, on-time service, including managing exceptions and adjusting driver ETAs based on schedules and road conditions
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2–3 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience
- Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends if needed
Qualifications
- Strong professional communication skills for internal and external interactions
- Proven experience in establishing and maintaining healthy working relationships
- Ability to foster strong customer relationships through delivery of commitments, open communication, and ongoing feedback
- High level of accuracy in processing information and analyzing situations to make productive decisions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a dynamic work environment
- Willingness to travel to account and customer locations
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and directives
- Experience holding people accountable and conducting difficult conversations
- Ability to perform in a stressful, high-pressure work environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field
- 1–2 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience
