Transportation Manager

Responsibilities

• Cook economic and efficient transportation systems
• Schedule inbound and outbound shipments
• Purchase or lease necessary equipment
• Administer the department operating budget
• Review and recommend major purchases
• Maintain accurate records of fuel costs, mileage, repairs, and driver hours
• Interface with Distribution Center management and staff, other Company centers, and carriers
• Ensure compliance with transportation regulations including DOT drug testing
• Verify compliance with FSMA and SFTA procedures
• Maintain safety consciousness among employees
• Plan and supervise delivery scheduling
• Oversee backhaul programs and rates
• Ensure achievement of benchmarks for store service and Company goals
• Mentor and train Transportation Management group
• Maintain driver workforce
• Oversee driver road testing, training, and qualification
• Coach and mentor new drivers
• Resolve customer complaints
• Interact with various Company personnel and outside carriers
• Complete other tasks as assigned

Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of trucking activities including dispatching, scheduling, and repairs
• Experience in distribution transportation management, preferably with the Parent Company
• Knowledge of regulatory bodies such as ICC and DOT
• Ability to motivate and work with others
• Good communication skills, both oral and written
• Ability to negotiate with outside professionals and consultants
• Knowledge of EDP applications and personal computer applications
• Experience with on-board computer programs and transportation software
• Analytical ability to handle administrative duties
• Mental alertness for accurate, safe, and thorough work activities
• Ability to concentrate and deal with interruptions

Qualifications

Prior experience in distribution transportation management preferred.
