About the role

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is seeking a Transportation Maintenance Technician I, II, or III based in McKinney, TX. This position performs routine maintenance work related to transportation activities such as roadway repair, light and heavy equipment operation, preventive maintenance, minor repairs on equipment, traffic control, and assisting the public during emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.
  • Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.
  • Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards, and comfort stations.
  • Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush.
  • Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals, and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Performs all other job responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: No formal education required.
  • Experience:
    • TMT I: No experience required.
    • TMT II: 1 year experience.
    • TMT III: 2 years experience.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license at the time of application. Requires a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" endorsement or a CDL "A" License within 120 days from date of employment.
  • Background: US Military CDL Equivalent.

  • Knowledge: The use of applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade; the use of light and heavy highway equipment; maintaining a safe working relationship with others; following verbal and written instructions; applicable inspection methods, procedures, and techniques; basic vehicle mechanics, maintenance, and repair procedures; applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes; prioritizing and organizing work assignments; using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems.

Pay

  • Transportation Maint. Tech I: $40,918.00 - $61,130.00.
  • Transportation Maint. Tech II: $42,976.00 - $64,469.00.
  • Transportation Maint. Tech III: $45,521.00 - $71,055.00.
