Transportation Maint Tech I, II, or III - Woodville Maint

About the role

The Transportation Maintenance Tech I, II, and III roles at TxDOT's Woodville Maintenance Office are responsible for performing routine transportation operations and maintenance support tasks. These positions involve assisting in the installation and repair of signs, delineators, mailbox supports, and posts; operating and maintaining various types of equipment; and providing assistance to the public during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Assists in identifying, repairing, and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports, and posts.
• Performs basic welding as needed.
• Moves and uses equipment/tools, materials, and products related to these activities.
• Supports local law enforcement at accident sites and assists stranded motorists.
• Plants and maintains vegetation, mows rights-of-way, and inspects barricades.
• Operates light equipment such as front-end loaders, pneumatic rollers, rotary brooms, spreaders, backhoes, street sweepers, and mowers.
• Completes preventive maintenance inspections, routine servicing, and minor repairs on equipment.
• Inspects and repairs roadway repairs, guard rails, highway markers, and signs.
• Operates heavy equipment such as motor graders, large excavators, heavy bulldozers, cranes, herbicide trucks, asphalt paving machines, and profiling/milling machines.
• Trains other employees and serves as a work crew project lead.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

No formal education is required. Experience varies depending on the position:

• TMT I: No experience required.
• TMT II: 1 year experience.
• TMT III: 2 years experience.

Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. Relevant technical training or education from an accredited institution may substitute for experience on a year per year basis.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license at the time of application.
• Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" endorsement or a CDL "A" License within 180 calendar days from the start of a CDL training program.
• US Military CDL Equivalent.

• Knowledge of methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.
• Applicable inspection methods, procedures, and techniques.
• Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance.
• The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
• Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes.
• Basic vehicle mechanics, maintenance, and repair procedures.
• Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes.
• Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external.
• Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems.
• Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade.
• Using of light and heavy highway equipment.
