Transportation Maint Tech I, II-CC Maintenance

TxDOT's Corpus Christi District is looking for a Transportation Maintenance Tech I or II to perform routine transportation operations and maintenance support work. This role blends hands-on work, teamwork, and the satisfaction of helping keep the community moving safely and smoothly. Responsibilities

• Assists in identifying, repairing, and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports, and posts; performs basic welding as needed; uses/moves equipment, tools, materials, and products related to these activities.
• Assists local law enforcement officials at accident sites and stranded motorists as required.
• Supports traffic control by placing and gathering cones, warning signs, and barricades; flags traffic.
• Removes litter and roadway debris.
• Operates light equipment such as front-end loaders (one and a quarter cubic yard or less), pneumatic rollers, rotary brooms, spreader boxes, backhoes, street sweepers, and mowers.
• Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing, and minor repairs on equipment; completes required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.
• Assists during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills by sanding or cleaning bridges and roads, posting warning signs, and helping the public.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Additional Duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech II

• Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications, safety laws, rules, regulations, and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
• Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports, and posts; performs welding; uses/moves equipment, tools, materials, and products.
• Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs, and barricades; flags traffic.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license at the time of application; must drive a state vehicle.
• Transportation Maintenance Tech I: Must obtain a Commercial Class "A" CDL with "N" Tank Endorsement within 120 days from date of employment.
• Transportation Maintenance Tech II: Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License and obtain an "N" Endorsement within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
• Safety Impact Certificate (provided at time of hire).
• US Military License candidates must successfully obtain Texas Class “A” CDL within 120 days of employment.
• Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions; subject to random drug testing.
• Must report for duty within 45 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
• Required to work weekends, holidays, and hours other than 8am to 5pm.
• Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
• Must wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
• This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.

Qualifications

Education: No education required.

Experience:

• Transportation Maintenance Tech I: No experience required.
• Transportation Maintenance Tech II: 1 year of experience in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work. Experience can be full-time or prorated part-time equivalent. Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may substitute for experience on a year-per-year basis.

Skills

Transportation Maintenance Tech I:

• Knowledge of materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance.
• Familiarity with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
• Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments.
• Proficiency in using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems.
• Experience operating light and heavy highway equipment.
• Ability to maintain a safe working relationship with others.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Additional Skills for Transportation Maintenance Tech II:

• Knowledge of methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes.
• Subject to extreme cold and heat (below 32°F and above 100°F for more than one hour).
• Subject to noise.
• Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs. at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
• Crouching: bending body downward and forward by bending leg(s) and spine.
• Standing for prolonged periods of time.
• Fingering: picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand.
• Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words.

Pay

Annual Salary Grade/Range:

• Transportation Maintenance Tech I (A16): $40,918.00 - $61,130.00
• Transportation Maintenance Tech II (A17): $42,976.00 - $64,469.00
