About the role

The Transportation Generalist Senior and Transportation Generalist positions at the State of Minnesota are dedicated to developing policies, providing essential services, and improving the quality of life for all Minnesotans. This role is located at the D7 Headquarter Building in Mankato and offers the flexibility to telework, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers data from other functional areas and follows standards for drafting constructions plan(s) and reviews to ensure compliance with CADD data standards and MnDOT’s design standards.
  • Completes computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD) functions and calculates and applies software programs used to perform technical detail designing and drafting of plans.
  • Creates/revises alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and super elevations for construction plans.
  • Affords assistance in developing and designing elements for construction plans to ensure MnDOT, AASHTO and FHWA standards are met.
  • Uses and maintains project information in an efficient manner so information is readily available for plan preparation and other uses.
  • Conducts background research on assigned issues.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience performing roadway, bridge or transportation design activities using Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) or equivalent or related activities.
  • One year of experience utilizing computer-aided drafting and designing (CADD) or related activities.
  • A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Qualifications

  • Part 1: Two (2) years of experience performing roadway, bridge or transportation design activities using Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) or equivalent or related activities.
  • Part 2: Candidates that are made a contingent job offer will be invited to take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test. The required passing score for the Math portion is a level 5 or higher and the Reading portion is a level 5 or higher.

Skills

Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate or Transportation Generalist is preferred.

Pay

$27.14 - $35.09 / hourly; $56,668 - $73,267 / annually for Transportation Generalist Senior

$25.19 - $31.60 / hourly; $52,597 - $65,981 / annually for Transportation Generalist
